Courtesies

Courtesies are practices that help promote the mission and values of the league.

  • Watch your attitude. Softball is not a contact sport! Don't heckle the other team ("they can't hit," etc.). Sometimes teasing your friends can make them nervous while they are at bat. Be encouraging.

  • If a team is winning by more than 10 runs, they should show gracious sensitivity toward their opponents. Consider changing players around or avoid stealing bases. Games are meant to be fun for everyone.

  • Only use the field assigned to your game or practice. The Field Map provides a visual reference and labels the fields used by the league.

All teams are responsible for cleaning up their area after each game or practice. This includes papers, cans, bottles, dog poop, and any other trash. The City of Northampton has a carry-in, carry-out policy, and trash receptacles are not provided.

  • Dogs are allowed on reasonably short leashes on the Sheldon Fields. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.

  • Scorekeepers deserve respect, too. The beginnings of games are sometimes hectic, but we should not be rude to the scorekeepers (or to anyone else).

  • Spectators are welcome, but they should not interfere with the game.
